New Business:
Cary Belyea, SwimSafe Pool Management
·       Opening went well. Pool is in great shape for being 10 years old. The games in the grass area seem to getting used a lot; and Cary has received compliments concerning the funbrellas.
·       Doug Carlberg is back as manager, Jon Bennett is the assistant manager, and Eric Hager is the head lifeguard. Our lifeguard staff has an average of four years of lifeguard experience. This is a great group of guards, who take the job seriously. Andrea and Melissa Knollman took pictures of the staff members and posted them on the guard room window. Staff on duty has their photos and names posted on the manager’s door.
·       Jennifer Bennett saved a young person from the deep end water this week.
·       Swim lessons have a ratio of 1:3 or 1:4. Program evaluations will be distributed today. Verbal feedback has been real positive.
·       Safety remains our primary goal. Cleanliness of the pool and bathhouse are also a very high priority. An hourly check list procedure has been added to each changing room; and lifeguards are required to check the areas, and initial off on the list each hour.
·       Diving lessons will be looked into, by Cary, for next year.
·       July 4th will see another round of pool games happening at 2:00pm.

Old Business:
Tri-Health Report
·       Christa Roessner completed this month’s report. Commission compliments Christa for her efforts during Kathy’s maternity leave. (Kathy and her husband welcomed their son on Friday, June 15th.)
·       Rick Hasler and Christa Roessner (or maybe Kathy will be back) will attend either the August or September commission meeting to give the quarterly report.

Director’s Report:
Trails Update
·       Reviewing the Recreation Department’s five year master plan, the Kingsport to Gorman Farm trail has been completed. The village is working with a company on signage for the trail system. Park Hills Homeowners Association has completed their trail to the Rest Haven Cemetery and is discussing the trail from Giverny to lower Glendale Milford Road.
·       Princeton High School will use the swim team tent for their two-a-day football practices, starting in late July and into August.
·       The swimming pool will close on Sunday, July 22, Monday, July 23, and Tuesday, July 24, because the Village of Evendale Recreation Department is hosting the 31st annual Northern Suburban Swim League Championship Meet.~ Evendale residents have the privilege and opportunity to use the City of Sharonville’s Aquatic Center during the championship dates.~ If interested, residents must register, in person, at the Evendale Recreation Center by Friday, July 20, 12 noon.~ Residents that register will receive a rules and regulations sheet from Sharonville.~ In addition, at the time of registering to use Sharonville’s pool, inform us of any special medical conditions and provide an emergency contact.~ When using the Sharonville pool, Evendale residents must present, at the front pool entrance, their current ID card and pay a $4.00 daily fee per person.~ Sharonville’s swimming pool is located off Creek Road and Thornview Drive.~ Guest privileges at the Sharonville pool are strictly prohibited.~ This privilege, to use the Sharonville pool, is strictly for Evendale residents that have a current ID card from the Evendale Recreation Department.
·       Dave has budgeted for playground renovations in 2008. He will host an “input” meeting consisting of up to twelve moms (or dads), with younger children, in mid to late August. If commission members want to recommend a mom (or dad); they should contact Dave.
·       The men’s locker room will have new carpet installed on Tuesday, June 26th.
·       The Multipurpose Room (aka the North Gym) will close August 13th for two to three weeks so that the floor can be stripped, repaired in areas, and then refinished.
·       The Recreation Center will close the last weekend in August (25th & 26th) for our annual cleaning and maintenance. The fitness center will open Saturday morning until noon; but close all day Sunday.
·       The budget sub-committee will meet after the August commission meeting. The committee members are Dave Nichols, Gus Janszen, Doug Lohmeier, and Grace Ficke.

Phi Lambda Pi Report:
·       Most of May centered on the Inferno Challenge. The winning team receives dinner and a movie on July 9th. (The worst challenge was the grape juice drinking contest.)
·       Thirteen Phi members also volunteered at Griffin Park, helping clean up trails.
·       The pool concession stand opened for the season with four managers and seventeen Phi members employed.
·       Gatlinburg Trip took place June 15th – 17th. Everyone had a good time.
·       Rock the Dale Concert will happen August 11th. Band schedule is being finalized.
·       The annual Myrtle Beach trip is July 31st to August 5th.

Open Discussion:
·       Gus Janszen has organized an adult “pick-up” game of soccer. The group is 30 years and over. He requests we continue to cut and stripe field three.
·       Mary Lou Isaac recently reserved the covered patio and everyone had a good time.  The area looks really nice and, also, allowed the kids to use the playground area while the parents relaxed on the patio.
·       Doug Lohmeier rented the Shelter House over the weekend and the new tables and the recent painting made everything very nice. He suggested the window tracks be cleaned so the window panes slide easier.
·       The parking lot sealing and striping project was discussed. Commission recommends to the Village Engineer in the future to choose a different month, preferably one when the recreation center is not so busy, maybe April or August.
·       Resident Doug Nunn was recently named, by the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, Ohio’s Coach of the Year for 2007. There will be a celebration and sports day at the Ohio capitol building on Wednesday, June 27th.

Motion to adjourn made at 8:20am by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
